Connellsville Area School District Uses Boxlight’s HD Interactive Displays to Level the Tech Playing Field

Large, rural district in Pennsylvania implements technology that helps all students and teachers thrive in the 21st Century learning environment

Lawrenceville, GA — October 1, 2018 — Focused on establishing equality throughout its schools and among its staff, Connellsville Area School District (CASD) has replaced existing projectors with interactive flat panels from Boxlight Corporation (Nasdaq: BOXL) (“Boxlight”).
A large, rural school district south of Pittsburgh, CASD is committed to providing its 4,400 students with tools that will help them thrive in a 21st Century learning environment. As part of that commitment, the district invested in 270 ProColor interactive flat panels and is implementing a 1:1 program with Chromebooks and myriad other tools that help level the technology playing field for teachers and students alike.
“We previously had some schools with a lot of technology, and others that were lacking (mainly due to funding issues),” says Kevin Ghost, CASD’s Director of Technology/Network Administrator. “As a result, student access to technology wasn’t really fair or equitable.”
Variations among the technology itself also got in the way, and included everything from interactive boards to traditional projectors and dry erase boards. Keeping that equipment up and running required different maintenance strategies. “We literally had to stockpile dozens of different types of projector bulbs,” says Ghost, “just to ensure that teachers had them when they needed them.”
These and other challenges went away when CASD selected Boxlight and Cloudcast to implement the district-wide interactive flat panel initiative. Today, all of the district’s classrooms are equipped with the ProColor 65-inch, high definition flat panel display. The displays’ Touch 360° interactivity features up to 10 single-touch points or five dual-touch for gestures giving users a way to work simultaneously thereby driving collaborative learning. Users also have access to the award-winning MimioStudio Software and a wealth of applications in Google Classroom via an Android OS built-in browser. And, using their Chromebooks in conjunction with the flat panel displays, teachers can quickly turn those displays into giant, touchscreen computers.
Ghost says the flat panel implementation has enabled high levels of teacher collaboration—something that was previously unattainable thanks to CASD’s disparate tech tools. “When teachers find resources, they can quickly share them with one another,” says Ghost, “thus creating a high level of equity across the district.”
Boxlight CEO Mark Elliott says CASD is a great example of how districts can use technology to affordably expand the ways in which educators teach and students learn. “Our ongoing mission is to help districts like CASD approach learning in the ways that suit them best now as well as in the future,” says Elliott, “and that support their ongoing commitments to finding more efficient and effective ways to deliver learning.”
