Huntington Beach City School District Uses Boxlight’s MimioSpace to Transform Classrooms into Forward-Thinking, Collaborative Learning Environments
New Installation Part of District’s Growing Technology Initiative
Lawrenceville, GA — September 13, 2018 — California’s Huntington Beach City School District (HBCSD) will be adding 60 MimioSpace collaborative systems from Boxlight Corporation (Nasdaq: BOXL) (“Boxlight”) to its classrooms in order to support its expanding technology initiative. The district partnered with Boxlight and premiere reseller partner OnPoint to bring collaborative technology to classrooms in nine schools throughout the district.
The addition of MimioSpace and other Boxlight products, including Boxlight Labdiscs and ProColor touch tables, is the result of a $150 million bond approved to encourage more collaborative and forward-thinking classrooms in HBCSD. HBCSD’s expanding technology initiative aims to transform the learning process for students, favoring a more collaborative and engaging environment. With the flexibility offered by the addition of Boxlight technologies to the district’s classrooms, students are able to explore new ideas with instant feedback.
“The addition of these tools to our classrooms signals a dramatic change in how we engage our students and how we utilize technology,” said Gregory Haulk, superintendent of HBCSD. “Our partnership with OnPoint and Boxlight was built on listening and being very receptive to what teachers and students wanted and needed for improved academic experiences.”
The MimioSpace collaborative system consists of a laser projector, touch board, and Mini-PC. The system creates an expansive 32-touch area with Touch 360° interactivity, making collaborative learning at the front of the classroom a reality. Students work together in an area almost 11 ft. wide and over 4 ft. tall, making it possible for teachers to share web pages, videos, lessons and more simultaneously. Because it doubles as a dry erase surface, the ultra-wide touch board is able to completely replace a traditional whiteboard.
Additionally, the MimioSpace system comes equipped with the dynamic MimioStudio software and MimioMobile app for three devices, which offer countless resources for educators to engage students, as well as the capability to connect with personal devices throughout the classroom. Together, the MimioSpace collaborative system, MimioStudio software, and MimioMobile app enable full-classroom collaboration and assessment using almost any device.
Haulk praised the quality of product support that HBCSD has received from both Boxlight and reseller OnPoint, in the process of choosing the best technology products for the district. “It’s nice when you can test out an app or a piece of technology—and turn your students and teachers loose on it—before making a purchase decision,” said Haulk. “We pick our partners carefully, and we make sure those partners have product development, product support, and user-friendly interfaces – we have that with Boxlight and OnPoint.”
“We are happy when our products are able to transform the entire learning environment for students,” said Mark Elliott, CEO of Boxlight. “Thanks to premier partner OnPoint, Huntington Beach has found the perfect combination of Boxlight solutions to change the learning process in their schools and help their students collaborate and succeed.”
