“About 10 years ago, I started here as the Chief Technology Officer, (and we had) a lot of old projectors and projectors were becoming a thing of the past,” stated CCPS CTO Rod Smith.
“Everyday is a learning experience for me,” said Jevetta Royster, 3rd grade teacher. “Whatever I don’t know...I can go and ask questions. (My DLS) has taught me a lot that I can pass on to my students.”
Mariah Dewberry, 2nd grade teacher, also commented, “(My DLS) gets me excited to try new things. I’ll tell her ... I saw another teacher doing this online ... and she’ll come in and she’ll show me step-by-step, or she’ll come in the classroom and help me do it with my students.”

The Challenge
Clayton County Public Schools (CCPS) grappled with the challenges posed by outdated technology, particularly aging projectors that no longer met modern educational requirements. As the district prioritized an infrastructure upgrade and implemented a new academic instructional framework, the need for comprehensive teacher training to effectively integrate technology into lesson plans became evident.
“About 10 years ago, I started here as the Chief Technology Officer, (and we had) a lot of old projectors and projectors were becoming a thing of the past,” stated CCPS CTO Rod Smith.
Key Solutions
In addressing these challenges, CCPS turned to Boxlight for innovative solutions, with a primary focus on enhancing teacher engagement and increasing opportunities for student learning and interaction. Boxlight's Mimio interactive flat panel displays, student response systems, and document cameras emerged as comprehensive solutions to modernize the classroom environment. To ensure the successful adoption of these tools, Boxlight acquired EOS Education to provide specialized teacher training. This strategic partnership with EOS Education, comprising former educators with deep insights into classroom dynamics, ensured that CCPS teachers gained a profound understanding of technology integration, fostering meaningful engagement beyond the surface level.
“We set up the DLS program so that the DLSs could go out and work with the teachers, make sure they knew how to use the technology, but not just on a surface level,” commented Smith.
Each district school has a Digital Learning Specialist available to assist and answer questions on any of the Boxlight Mimio solutions. The dedicated support for each school has, over the years, helped increase teacher confidence using their classroom technology.
Smith added, “All of the DLSs that we hire that come through EOS (Education by Boxlight) all have been former educators. And we just grew that relationship and became just strong partners. We love that partnership and we rely heavily on them for our innovation.”
“We come in and do ongoing group trainings with the teachers, as well as providing them virtual support where they can access us throughout the day,” stated Kalishea Ellis, Digital Learning Program Manager for EOS Education by Boxlight.
