The Challenge

Stafford Public Schools (Stafford Springs, CT) consistently strives to drive learning so that, according to their mission statement, prepares their students “to assume productive, meaningful, and responsible roles in an increasingly competitive global society.” All the schools in the district are 1:1 and this past school year, have implemented a hybrid learning model – students learning from home and in-class.

Before forging a relationship with Mimio® Education by Boxlight, Stafford classrooms had a mix of SMART boards and RM units. While the technology was good, overall teacher and student use was low. Generally, teachers were not confident about incorporating tech in their instructional practice, so the decision-making team wanted a positive change to boost engagement for all. Their goal was to find an interactive product suite that could be used throughout the district. In this way, each staff member would receive training using the same education technology.

“Staff are all trained using the same equipment. We developed several support mechanisms such as Mimio Experts in the district and had a train-the-trainer approach to support staff.”

Key Solution

The district invested in a Mimio educational suite that included an interactive whiteboard, document camera, classroom software, and wireless tablet. The products are simple to set up and user friendly, save teachers time when, and was cost effective.

Lynn Erickson, Technology Integration Specialist at Stafford Public Schools, comments, “We have used these products over the years in all classrooms with our math, science, and social studies programs.” In the middle and high school classes, especially math and reading classes, lessons and games are developed using MimioStudio software. The lessons are uploaded to a shared drive for teachers to access, personalize, and use.

Erickson, a Boxlight-Mimio certified trainer, is part of a team that helps staff navigate the Mimio suite of products through training, coaching, and ongoing support. Erickson says, “Staff are all trained using the same equipment. We developed several support mechanisms such as Mimio Experts in the district and had a train-the-trainer approach to support staff. Several staff became Mimio certified and supported staff as well.”
