The Challenge
The Defence College of Logistics, Policing and Administration (DCLPA) Headquarters, Worthy Down is part of the Ministry of Defence in the UK focusing on personnel administration and logistics training for the Army, Navy, and RAF (Tri Service). The campus hosts around 1,000 students with multiple on-site classrooms and lecture theatres while also housing other services. The campus is experiencing rapid growth including new buildings and an amalgamation of resources where services have relocated centrally to the Worthy Down site.
With change in mind, the aspiration was always to have their new buildings become more digitally focused. Existing interactive whiteboards, projector systems, and digital signage screens were outdated and primitive to use, motivating the IT team and their reseller partner, Akhter, to source a new cloud-based, digital ecosystem across the campus. Working together, they identified solutions that would transform how services were provided.
Key Solutions
As part of the first rollout, 75 Clevertouch IMPACT interactive flat panels were installed into classrooms which immediately helped improve the reliability of their classroom technology. Some of those IMPACT touchscreens were mounted on mobile carts for use in collaboration spaces and as ad hoc digital signage around the campus.
The second part of the rollout was to improve communications around the campus. Solutions included a new cloud-based digital signage system using Clevertouch's CM Series commercial displays, Pico players, and free-to-use CleverLive cloud-based software system to upload and broadcast new content quickly and easily. As part of the tech refresh, 60 CM Series commercial displays and Pico players have been installed around the campus with an additional 15 of each to follow.
Worthy Down’s Information Manager, Matthew Gosling comments, “We wanted to move away from the current digital signage system, that was a laborious job of walking to each screen and uploading content from a USB stick and we never knew if they were offline until we were in front of the screen. Clevertouch’s CleverLive system allows us to see the health of the screen online and update content quickly and easily from our desks. We just log in every morning and check for issues.”
Clevertouch’s CM Series Commercial Displays and Pico players replaced traditional cardboard posters and aging, complicated signage screens. The new Clevertouch digital signage is used campus wide to broadcast messages throughout the day including menu updates from the catering block, welfare notices, and scheduled charity events.
Gosling continues, “The idea was to move away from placing posters around the campus and not user-friendly signage screens to a more fluid easy to use system. The administrators we’ve brought online have found the CleverLive software system easy to use from the comprehensive training given by the Clevertouch team. Having accessibility to the Clevertouch development team has also meant that we were able to get a technical request in and within a few days it was actioned.”
Benefits
Gosling sums up his experience from Clevertouch this way - “From start to finish, the team has been helpful. They've taken us through every step, from the training, the installation, setup and then the development in the future for training more users with their CleverLive system. It’s been helpful to always be able to reach out and know that I'll get a decent answer from somebody with a quick turnaround.”
Clevertouch continues to champion simplicity with easy-to-use products backed up with added value software with CleverLive and on-going training and support. Worthy Down is transforming their digital on campus communications through the support of their reseller partner, Akhter.
